Steel industry
1.Deoxygenation and Denitrification: Zirconium and iron are extremely powerful elements for deoxidation and denitrification in the steelmaking process.
2.Refining grain size: The zirconium element in zirconium iron alloys can refine the austenite grain size of steel. The fine grain structure increases the grain boundary area of steel, enhances the hindering effect of grain boundaries on dislocation movement, and thereby improves the strength, toughness, and plasticity of steel.
3.Preventing thermal brittleness: Zirconium can react with sulfide to synthesize sulfide zirconium, reducing the number and size of sulfide inclusions in steel, avoiding thermal brittleness caused by sulfide melting and grain boundary weakening during hot processing, and improving the hot processing performance and thermal stability of steel.
4.Improving the performance of cast iron: Zirconium iron also plays an important role in cast iron production. It can form zirconium carbide, combine with sulfur to form sulfides, and promote the formation of graphite when cooled.
